Homage to Herculaneum Exhibition
I had a lot of fun experimenting with printmaking techniques to achieve the Fresco “look” I wanted. Most pieces are a combination of processes. The Artist Statement follows:
“Homage to Herculaneum is inspired by a recent visit to the frescos of Herculaneum, some of which remain intact.
For Roman architect, Vitruvius, the only way to appreciate artistic excellence in his day was ‘by the use of colours and the brave show they make.’ The fresco artists of Roman days were inspired by nature and the world in which they lived in the same way that artists today respond to their environment. They explored and represented their world using materials at hand and techniques developed to represent their ideas.
This work responds to and represents the “brave show” that artists of the time made with the pigments and techniques available to them.”
The above works and more are available framed or unframed at Peace of Green Gallery Maple Street Maleny or by contacting Dorothy.
